The ‘Bald’ Move

The Twitterati blasted with quite hilarious as well as quite serious remarks with respect to the two upcoming Bollywood movies, ‘Ujda Chaman’ and ‘Bala’ starring Sunny Singh and Ayushman Khurrana respectively as the Protagonist. However, apart from the Social Media Space, the matter has now escalated to the High Court of Bombay where the producers of the movie ‘Ujda Chaman’ have filed a complaint alleging copyright infringement of their movie.

Apparently, both of the movies have a similar storyline revolving around a bald protagonist. ‘Ujda Chaman’ is an official remake of the 2017 Kannada movie ‘Ondu Motteya’. The movie ‘Bala’ and ‘Ujda Chaman’ are up for release on November 7 and November 8, 2019, respectively.

This could be a rather intriguing case because the makers of ‘Ujda Chaman’ have officially acquired the remake rights of the Original Kannada Movie but, the defendants can have an arguable case if they could prove that the only common thing between both the movies is its theme. The basic principle and the defense being that No Copyright can subsist in an idea.

Presently, the Hon’ble High Court of Bombay has ordered the Plaintiff to deposit a copy of their movie ‘Ujda Chaman’ with the Court. The Hon’ble Court has also allowed the Plaintiff’s representative to view the Defendant’s movie. The matter is next listed to be heard on October 22, 2019. The Court order can be accessed here.

Recently, Dr. Zeus also took to twitter to slam ‘Bala’ makers along with Badshah and Sachin Jigar for plagiarising his song- ‘Don’t be Shy’ without being credited for the same.

Badshah has reacted to the allegations which can be accessed here.

Update [23.10.2019]: ‘Ujda Chaman’ is set for release a week prior to its original date now. More information can be found here.
