New Technologies and Law

The fifteenth chapter is dedicated to analyzing the various new technologies that are being introduced in the world and how they come under the ambit of prevailing laws. Perhaps the most revolutionary technology being developed today is that of Artificial Intelligence. The chapter gives a brief introduction to what Artificial Intelligence is, how it works, which technologies are involved in making it function, the place of AI in the legal field and the requirement of evolution and development of the legal framework to keep up with the technology. The challenges that AI currently poses and its future in India have also been discussed.

Next, the technological advancement discussed it the Internet of Things (IoT). The chapter explains what IoT is, its application, the legal challenges to IoT, and also takes an international perspective to study how IoT has made its way into the world. Following this, the chapter moves on to the technology of Robotics. The rise of the internet, automation and robotics have been illustrated and the future of the same has been discussed. The chapter also enunciates how the essential characteristics of robotics interact with the law in novel ways.

Next, cryptocurrency, it’s working, its place in the legal framework and the international state of the same in various countries have been enunciated. Following this, the chapter analyses autonomous vehicles and the legal issues relating to the same. Its risks have been explained in great depth and suggestions to eliminate and accommodate the same have also been offered. Questions such as on whom the responsibility or liability would fall have also been answered. Lastly, the chapter discusses the new technology of drones, the permits and legal obligations such as flight restrictions, tracking with the help of remote-id and the application for license of the RPA system.
